PrEP Shelter (prepshelter.my) is a platform dedicated to improving access to HIV prevention services in Malaysia. We understand that people using our platform may be seeking sensitive healthcare information. We are deeply committed to protecting your privacy and will never compromise on that principle.
1. What We Do NOT Collect
PrEP Shelter is designed to be used without revealing your identity. We do not collect, store, or process:
- Your name, identity card (MyKad), or passport number
- Your email address or phone number (unless you voluntarily submit a partner application or question)
- Your health, medical, or HIV status information
- Your location data (location access is optional, processed only in your browser, and never sent to our servers)
- Cookies used for tracking, advertising, or analytics
- Any data that could personally identify you as a visitor
2. What We Do Store (Locally on Your Device)
We use your browser's localStorage solely to improve your experience. This data never leaves your device:
- Your dismissed status for the privacy consent banner
- Your bookmarked clinics (stored as clinic IDs only, no personal data)
- Your preferred display language
- Your preferred colour theme (light / dark)

3. Voluntary Submissions
Certain features allow you to voluntarily submit information:
Partner / Clinic Applications
If you apply to list a clinic, you will provide business contact details (clinic name, contact person, email, phone). This information is sent directly to our team via WhatsApp and is used solely to evaluate and process your listing application.
Question Submissions
If you submit a question, the content of your question may be reviewed by our team. We strongly advise you not to include personally identifying information in your question.
Newsletter Subscription
If you subscribe to our newsletter, your email address is stored in-memory and used only to send you PrEP updates. You may unsubscribe at any time by contacting us.
AI Chat Assistant
Messages sent to our AI chat assistant are processed by OpenRouter (an AI API provider) to generate responses. Chat history is held in your browser session only and is not stored on our servers. Do not share identifying health information in the chat.
4. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate the platform:

We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any advertising or tracking technologies.
5. Clinic Directory Data
All clinic information displayed on PrEP Shelter — including names, addresses, contact details, and service offerings — is sourced from our Google Sheets clinic registry and is intended to be publicly accessible information. Clinics have consented to their information being listed by applying to be a partner. If you are a clinic and wish to update or remove your listing, please contact us.
6. Children's Privacy
PrEP Shelter is intended for adults seeking HIV prevention information and services. We do not knowingly collect any information from individuals under the age of 18. If you believe a minor has submitted personal information through our platform, please contact us immediately.
7. Data Security
Our website is served over HTTPS. Because we do not store personal data on our servers, the risk of a data breach involving your personal information is minimal. However, no internet transmission is 100% secure, and we encourage you not to share sensitive health information through any online platform unnecessarily.
8. Your Rights
Under Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA), you have the right to:
- Access any personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate personal data
- Withdraw consent for processing of your personal data
- Request deletion of your personal data
